American Literature

This course will consist of readings in American literature spanning from colonial times to the post-9/11 age. Students are introduced to the many ‘Americas’ and ‘Americans’ through the lens of major American voices in literary history. While the instructor determines the breadth and focus of this survey, these voices may include Black American, Jewish American, Chicano/a, Latino/a American, Native American, and Asian American writers. The instructor will focus on American narratives with particular attention devoted to a distinct period, such as “the colonial”, “modern”, or “postmodern”.
